With reference to Mr Bertram Cox's letter of

the 23rd August 1909, 24939/09, transmitting a copy of a
despatch from the Governor of Hong Kong regarding the
proposed transfer by the War Department to the Admiralty
of a portion of the Arsenal Yard, Hong Kong, I am
commanded by the Army Council to refer the Earl Of
Crewe to the correspondence which took place between the
Colonial Office, the Admiralty, and this Department in
1903 and 1904, ending with War Office letter of 23rd
14682/04 April 1904, Hong Kong 8/169, in which the Army Council
agreed that in any cases of transfer to the Admiralty of
Colonial Military land at Hong Kong notification would

be made to the Colonial Office; and further to War
Office letter of 30th August 1906, Ceylon 8/5 (L.B.),
arising out of the proposed transfer at Mount Airy, Kandy,
in which the view was maintained that a permission
granted by the War Department to the Admiralty to occupy
premises temporarily for service purposes would not be
incompatible with the War Department tenure of the land.
